Foundation Course

Courses

You can choose from a variety of courses depending on how deeply you wish to study shiatsu and the courses are designed to dovetail into one another. It is also possible to stop for ‘time out’ and rejoin at the level you had attained:

The 3 month Foundation Course - Stage 1

This is Stage 1 of the 1 Year course and acts as an Introductory Foundation course at the end of which the participants will be able to conduct a basic shiatsu and have a background knowledge to the theory.  (In the future this may be changed to a 4 month course in order to be able to register with the Shiatsu Society as a Shiatsu Relaxation Masseur/se.  However this category is still to be adopted by the Society)

Contents

Days 1 & 2 - Introduction to the philosophy of Tao, yin/yang, the use of breath and pressure and qualities of touch applied on the back.  As well as, an introduction to the unique Ki development and movement system used by the school.

Days 3 & 4 - Review of weekend 1 and introduction to the 5 Element approach to energetics and how they can be used to create ‘Patterns of Disharmony’, and applied through touch.  On completion of the basic back or ‘prone’ position, students will begin to work in the side position

Days 5 & 6 - Review of Weekend 1 & 2, completion of basic side position and introduction to some simple rules on cautions, ethical issues and possible contraindications.  (This is important for all but placed here specifically for those who are intending to only do the Foundation/Stage 1 of the course).
